<image:title>Bloomsbury - History</image:title>
<image:caption>Sited on a traffic island, WC Bloomsbury emerges from a Grade II listed Victorian Water Closet, dating back to the late 19th century. Public toilets first appeared c. 1848 around London. The site is listed on Historic England’s ‘at risk register’ & has been diligently restored, respecting the 120 year old space. Original wood stalls form the booths, with some authentic porcelain pieces upholstered for additional seating. Original tiles form parts of the walls & granite & marble floors have been preserved. The Guilford Place drinking fountain was built c. 1870 & is also Grade II listed. It was designed by architect Henry Darbishire, for Mrs. Whiting, to commemorate their mother.</image:caption>

<image:title>Clapham - History</image:title>
<image:caption>Resting underneath Clapham Common Tube Station for over 100 years, this Victorian Water Closet dates back to the late 19th century. Public toilets first appeared c. 1848 around London. This WC lay derelict for more than 30 years, before it was diligently restored. The majority of what you see is original - we retained & preserved as much as possible, including mosaic floors & tiled walls. The booths are the original wooden stalls & Royal Doulton porcelains still stand in the gents loo, in all their glory. The attendant’s office was converted into the framework of the bar. The framed pieces in the ‘actual’ WC found during our refurbishment process, make for some interesting reading.</image:caption>
